Beachwalk Waikiki has a Japanese restaurant called “CHIBO”….well known for it’s specialty called “Okonomiyaki” a traditional japanese pancake filled with a selected protein. Most popular is a trio of seafood items. Very creative as it has a mixture of thin sliced cabbage and then compacted together with all that goodness and flavors. They then top it off with mayo, nori (seaweed) and bonito (shrimp) flakes. But, you will be swayed by the other items such as Yakisoba (fried noodles) and prime steak.
But, then you have this Hawaiian iconic dish, our all time comfort food called “LOCO MOCO”….! This Japanese restaurant paid careful attention to it’s classic stylin’ of sautéed onions, on a bed of white rice, thick “beef” gravy and a beef hamburger patty….then top it off with an easy over egg. They kept it simple and “classic”. But, the flavors just pops! They wanted to have their Japanese influence using the best ingredients possible. So, the rice is of high quality grade, the onions are sweet, the gravy is not held back with tastiness and the hamburger is probably of high grade beef. So, juicy with no fillers that I can tell. Beefy! Then topped off with a beautiful easy over egg with its vibrant yolk just ready to burst. And as a bonus…the chef prepares this dish right in front of you Yakiniku style…. They should be considered as top notch places in Hawaii to try “LOCO MOCO!”
This restaurant is one of the few places in Waikiki that offers “Dine In” during this Pandemic period. It has a couple of tables outside too! Lunch is priced very reasonable and should be categorized as “Cheap Eats.”
