North Shore, Oahu at Pupukea is a popular beach called “Sharks Cove”. During the off season it is great for snorkeling and scuba diving, But, Winter is only to watch the spectacular waves!
We stumbled across a protected reef wall (to the right side as you face actual Sharks Cove) that forms a natural oasis. Calm tide pool with natural ocean water spewing from the pressure of the tide, tiny fish and crabs are seen and occasional wave water slowly pours in. (Be very careful of high tides and strong surf that could unexpectedly go over!)
But, on this semi sunny mid day, Mimi and Pepe found a quiet natural playground….
It was very calm with virtually no other nearby, and to hear the faint roar of the waves crashing on the other side of that towering reef wall. Something to behold. The video captured the sounds of the tide pool as it fills itself with the surge coming through the rocks. There is probably lots of under ground tunnels that connects to the splash zone with its’ pressure pushing the water into this area….(is my guess).
There are public restrooms that you will find on the top end of this area along the side road (off the major highway). Foodland is nearby if you are wanting to create your own picnic food, but why not go to the “Food Trucks” just across the street! They offer picnic tables that are set up with distancing in mind. Variety of offerings, Shrimp, Poke, Burgers and Sandwiches, Shave Ice, Fish Taco and more!
There are quaint shops too of beachwear and ocean craft.
All in all, a must do while you are driving the North Shore.
Hint “Sharks Cove” has a basketball court and a nearby Fire Station…but can’t miss are the Food Trucks just seen along the Highway and directly across is “Sharks Cove”.
I send these videos to my guest who are staying at our Vacation Rentals on Oahu, Hawaii. But, for those who may not now us we would love you to stay on your next trip.
