Haleiwa at the North Shore, Oahu has a lot to offer! We first visited “Kai’aka Beach Park” where it offers a lot of picnic tables, restrooms available, trees for shade and of course the beach! It has rocky bottom but great for surfing. There were surf lessons being offered there. If you go along the shoreline it has a large area of sand bottom great for swimming not too far away as seen in the video clip. Notice too a rocky shoreline where fishermen and campers are found with lot’s of parking and large picnic area.

Not too far away is Alii Beach Park as mentioned Surfing Competition is held, but off season when no waves you will find a turtle sanctuary.

Haleiwa Town has lot’s of local eateries to experience, but on this day we craved juicy, tender, grilled on a rotisserie “Ray’s Keawe Chicken” (locals know it as “HULI HULI” which means to “turn” (Huli is repeated twice where you need to turn it at least twice to cook evenly). A Hawaiian tidbit:)

We took the chicken lunch to Haleiwa Beach Park where after eating we stumbled on a “Turtle Convention”…..wow! Did you count 5 turtles in just that one spot? To actual discover in natural habitat is a cool experience.

Careful of the strict laws on protecting the turtles here. Distancing is the key! Don’t get caught with the steep fines ($$$$)!
