Aloha to our visiting friends! Are you getting excited about visiting Hawaii? This segment is for those who like coastal exploring. Tide pools are great to see marine life in it’s natural existence. As you travel East past Diamond Head you will travel about 15 miles or so (approx 30 min from Waikiki) to Sandy Beach. But just past Sandy’s you will find some rugged lava on the shoreline. Caution the large surf! But on a calm water condition (mainly Winter season) and low tide the tide pools are great for viewing. Don’t be surprised to see fishermen being a popular spot.
Recommended for casual eats is a place just down the road from Sandy’s is Keneke’s Waimanalo. Very rustic laid back “hole in the wall” feel eatery. But, it does offer a wide variety on the menu. Save room for dessert too! Hawaii is known for the Kalua Pig cooked in the Imu (earth oven). They make a Kalua Pork Sandwich….surely a must to try. If you want to dress it up ask for mayo and tomato/lettuce/union too.
Trying the Hawaiian cuisine is a must to know the culture and have the personal connection. Pork/Butter Fish Lau Lau is a must try at least once in your lifetime.
